Portland Wedding: Jay and Annie

Last summer I once again had the honor of assisting Ryan of You Look Nice Today Photography with a couple of weddings. (He’s the amazing film photographer who took me on as an intern when I moved to Portland)  I always love tagging along with him because:
1. He’s a super awesome guy and 2. His weddings are always so different and fun

This wedding was no different. Jay and Annie wanted to have a laid back backyard wedding. I’ll admit when a lot of people hear the term “back yard wedding” a certain picture comes to mind, but let me tell you that this was NOT that picture. They got married at a friend’s beautiful home in Portland with a lake running through the property, a gorgeous house that could have easily been featured on HGTV, chickens, and a live cubano band. The weather was perfect, the people were all smiles, and the amazing music kept everyone’s feet moving all night<3

Wednesday Wedding “Do’s”

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my new hopefully every Wednesday feature titled “Wedding Do’s”. It will basically be an idea I come across in all my weekly wedding research that I think is absolutely beautiful and you should do at your wedding!! So…since it is my Birthday today. (Yay for getting old!) I’m going to keep this one short and cut straight to the point. So I find it only fitting that for my first Wedding Do’s post I pay tribute to the man who helped me start my Portland wedding career last summer, Ryan of You Look Nice Today Photography. This wedding was actually recently featured on Style Me Pretty and includes such gorgeous details it’s almost sickening. However, what I especially loved about it was the cute pink pom’s that filled the reception tent. OH. MAH. GAWD. (Yes, that totally just happened) They’re soooo wonderful. AND she made them herself!! (I’m super jealous of people who have the skill and patience to do those sorts of things).

Trang and CJ — Portland Wedding Photographer

I shot this beautiful Vietnamese wedding last summer. It was 12 hours and included a tea ceremony as well as a traditional catholic ceremony. It was so fun getting to know everyone and after 12 hours with them you almost felt like part of the family! I joked with Ryan throughout the day that they made my job there SUPER easy because they all absolutely loved to have their photo taken. Family members who appreciate being able to savor their important memories for years to come, HECK YEAH!!

Elizabeth and Joel — Portland Wedding Photography

 Lizzy and Joel were married at the breathtaking Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in SE Portland, Oregon. They are such a fun and relaxed couple it was a breeze to take photos that day.

They opted for a first look and after Lizzy was finished getting ready she spotted Joel across the park and casually said, “Oh, I’m going to go say hi to Joel.” and calmly waltzed over. I was FLOORED. Um…Hello?!?! Does it get any more laid back than that?!? (yeah, didn’t think so!)

The day was so beautiful. It was filled with beautiful people, beautiful food, a DJ that played actual vinyl! (I know!) and absolutely DROP. DEAD. GORGEOUS. flower arrangements by the insanely talented Rosemary Stafford Floral Design.

Although, I wasn’t able to stay at this wedding the whole day due to prior engagements, the short time I was there I got some awesome shots that show just how beautiful their special day was. Oh! Jane and Stuart — Portland Wedding Photography

    Jane and Stuart were actually married a couple months before their commitment ceremony this past summer so they kept things SUPER casual and it couldn’t have been a more lovely day! It combined all the great things every wedding should have: beautiful weather, great friends and family, lots of laughs, delicious food, and LOVE! Not to mention a totally AWESOME pyramid put together by the boys! (definitely a wedding first and only for me so far). Jane and Stuart are such a loving and stylish couple (How gorgeous and spunky was Jane’s dress?!) Not to mention FUNNY! They were constantly joking with each other and Jane actually taped her vows to Stuarts chest during the ceremony! It was a hilarious moment and everyone enjoyed it!

Calm, Cool, Collected, and Chic is how I would describe their beautiful day.

Lindsay and Govey — Portland Wedding Photography

Lindsay and Govey were married at the B-E-A-UTIFUL Columbia Edgewater Country Club in North Portland. It was a beautiful soirée full of beautiful people. I swear the entire family are secret super models on the side. Lindsay was upset the beginning of the day because it looked like it was going to rain. So at the last minute they all rallied together and moved the ceremony inside! It was still a gorgeous occasion and the sun began to bask in through the blinds as soon as she was walked down the isle, lighting her up like an angel!

It was the after party that was definitely the highlight of the night, though. Every one was having so much fun and partying it UP! Literally every single person, regardless of age or skill, were busting a move on the dance floor! I would like to say thank you to Lindsay and Govey for having such an AWESOME wedding full of drop dead gorgeous people that were so easy to photograph! And a big thank you to Ryan of youlooknicetodayphotography once again for bringing me along to second shoot this wedding!

Emily and Megan — Portland Wedding Photography

 This was the VERY FIRST wedding I shot this summer alongside Ryan of youlooknicetodayphotography. It was at McMenamin’s Cornelius Pass in Hillsboro, OR and was an absolutely gorgeous affair! The venue is a really cool circle barn and there was love pouring out of every corner! From the love between Emily and Megan themselves, to the intimate toasts and stories of love their family told, and even down to the Tom’s they bought their bridal party as gifts (because Megan is a school teacher!)

This wedding truly was magical and touching in every sense of the word. Not long before the wedding Emily was actually hit by a car! So she had a huge brace on her leg and she was on crutches most of the day, but she was definitely a trooper and wasn’t going to let it dampen her big day! She was so full of life, joy, and HAPPINESS! She literally did NOT stop smiling or laughing ONCE throughout the entire day!
